Shies away from the orchestral direction of the Galaxy series and fully embraces the big band sound, and goddamn does it leave an impression, it's not called the definitive Mario sound for nothing. IMO a refinement of its predecessor's direction, a bit less symphonic but more exciting and 'gamey', it's hard to quantify I admit.Д«orrows quite a few compositions from the Galaxy series, pretty good but a bit unremarkable. Much more extensive track selection, some of it very quality (I love Ricco Harbor, and its electric guitar solo), but some of it is pretty muted/atmospheric and not really my cup of tea.ДЄn outstanding selection of orchestral/synthetized tracks, to make one of the most iconic VG OSTs of all time. Some of the most iconic arrangements in VG history (Duh), but the game's over-reliance on the 'Slider' theme ends up really hurting it. I know a lot of people love Steam Gardens, but that song, and honestly Kingdom itself didnвЂ™t do much for me.ДЈD Land is a fun game but its music is not very good. The boss music in the Seaside Kingdom is my favorite, but probably because it reminds me of Sunshine. I adore the two vocal tracks, but honestly, no other stage themes from Odyssey stand out as fantastic. I was tempted to put Odyssey above 3D World just for Jump Up Superstar, but I think itвЂd be wrong to do that for one song. The tracks are repeated a lot which does bring it down, but thereвЂ™s so many great ones it just feels upbeat and perfect for this game. These tracks are incredible.ДЈD World has a wonderful jazz soundtrack. PeachвЂ™s Castle, The Slide, Bob-Omb Battlefield, Wing Cap theme, BowserвЂ™s Road. Even if they are all beach-adjacent, each music track feels distinct and appropriate.Д¦4 is just iconic. Sunshine is probably a lot of nostalgia, but I think each track in that game is immaculately tied to the specific level. Galaxy and Galaxy 2 have the best soundtracks in all of gaming. Galaxy > Galaxy 2 > Sunshine > 64 > 3D World Odyssey > 3D Land > all NSMB games.
